The Guardian FootballUefa agrees to boycott Fifa competitions if World Cup sell-off plans proceed
Uefa agrees stance at emergency meeting on Thursday Boycott would begin with Under-20 Women’s World Cup European countries have agreed to boycott all Fifa competitions if Gianni Infantino pushes forward with his proposals to sell chunks of the World Cup to US-based private investment . In an extraordinary development all 55 Uefa members resolved not to participate in future World Cups or other Fifa-run events, saying in a statement that they “unanimously and unequivocally reject” the proposals. An emergency meeting that lasted just short of two hours ended with a united front despite earlier fears that smaller countries, attracted by the money on offer through Infantino’s scheme, would be swayed in favour. The Guardian FootballToon turnover: the stats behind Eddie Howe’s highs and lows at Newcastle
During Eddie Howe’s time at Newcastle, only four clubs earned more Premier League points, but the team underperformed last term When Eddie Howe was appointed by Newcastle in November 2021, the club was 19th in the Premier League with no wins after 11 games. He steered them to 11th by the end of the campaign, and they finished 12th last season. At some clubs there would have been little deviation across that period. The Guardian FootballFootball transfer rumours: Jack Grealish to make Saudi switch to Al-Hilal?
Today’s rumours are getting out the paddling pool Having been left behind like an unloved t-shirt by Enzo Maresca as Manchester City departed for their pre-season tour of Asia, Jack Grealish is attracting admiring glances from elsewhere. Eyeing up the England attacker’s shapely calves are Al-Hilal of the Saudi Pro League, who would certainly have the funds to fulfil City’s desire of slapping a big ‘SOLD’ sticker on Grealish and preparing him for international shipping. The latest highly-touted prospect set to be whisked away after an impressive short stint at Bournemouth is Rayan . Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSG, Arsenal , and Liverpool all want the Brazilian winger. The link with Andoni Iraola at Anfield appears strong, but with the 19-year-old’s release clause not said to kick in until 2027, the fee required to move him from the south coast would be significant. Although probably still less than the price of a Bradley Barcola . Continue reading...
